On December 7, 2013,on I-55 in Marston, Missouri, a tractor-trailer slammed into the rear end of a vehicle occupied by four passengers. The crash was caused by the negligence of the truck driver, who was inattentive and failed to properly maintain a safe distance from the passenger vehicle as it slowed down for resting highway traffic.

As a result of the negligence of the truck driver, two of the occupants sustained disc injuries to their lumbar spine that eventually necessitated surgery. The other two occupants sustained minor injuries.
